On Tuesday, May 7th, the AP Biology class went to Texas Tech University to take a look at some science labs. They first went to go see Dr. Densmore whose research interests are in vertebrate molecular systematics, population genetics, ecology and molecular toxicology, specializing in crocodylians. They had the opportunity to hold many different species of snakes and also see some of the most venomous in the world. After, they visited with Dr. Held who gave them a quick tour of his lab and lectured them on his current research projects in fly genetics and pattern formation in organisms.

Plains ISD is standing with other local schools in support of Valley ISD's Paxton Barclay. Paxton, a first grader at Valley ISD, was given a DIPG diagnosis—a brain tumor that is inoperable. In an effort to raise awareness for Paxton, who is awaiting acceptance into either Cook Children's Medical Hospital or St. Jude's Hospital to conduct clinical trials, Valley ISD is contacting us and other nearby districts to join them on Wednesday, May 8th and wear hats to school. For a donation of $1 (or more), faculty and staff members will be able to wear a hat in support of the Barclay family's upcoming financial hardship. Plains lets show our support on Wednesday, May 8th!
