Just a Reminder: Plains HS STUCO will be collecting from students each day till March 8th for the Panhandle Disaster Relief for the families affected with the fires in the Panhandle. #plainsproud


On Monday, March 4th, Plains 7th through 12th grade will listen to a speaker to discuss overcoming hardship from Jamie Warren at 1:30 pm in the Auditorium. She comes recommend from our Educational Regional 17 Center. Parents are welcome to come.
Short Bio: At only 18 years old Jamie was 1 of 5 in the United States to receive a
scholarship and got to attend a conference in Kansas City where she spoke on the
behalf of Homeless youth in front of over 1,000 educators. Jamie spoke just recently at the Loved conference at the Baptist Church in Shallowater where she shared her testimony and how it impacted her faith. Jamie is passionate for advocating for at-risk and homeless youth in our community.


The results are in! Students across the state in grades 3-6 read and voted on their favorite Texas Bluebonnet Award nominated books for 2023-2024. The average number of voters per voting institution was 82. Plains ISD had 116 voters! Our school favorite was "Once Upon a Tim", followed by "Unbound: The Life and Art of Judith Scott" in 2nd place and "The Legend of Gravity" in 3rd place. Statewide results found "The Legend of Gravity" by Charly Palmer winning the Texas Bluebonnet Award, followed by "The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza" in 2nd place and "Gladys the Magic Chicken" in 3rd place. Thank you to 3rd-6th grade reading teachers, students, and principals for encouraging our readers. A special 'thank you' goes to Yoakum County Library/Plains and Library Director Anne Benson for partnering with our school on this incredible reading journey!

Plains High School is excited to announce Alan Gallegos and Jania Luna Vargas as the February Students of the Month.
Alan is the senior son of Joel and Miriam Gallegos. Alan has played football, basketball, and tennis while in high school. He also is on the track team. He is a member of the National Honor Society and participates in UIL calculator and mathematics. Alan's hobbies are playing sports with his friends and hanging out with friends and family. He plans to attend South Plains College and then transfer to Texas Tech to obtain a degree in architecture. One of Alan's teachers said that he is "an excellent student and a hard worker. Alan is well-rounded and very talented in many areas. I enjoy having him in class, and I appreciate his positive attitude and demeanor."
Jania Luna Vargas is the sophomore daughter of Francelia Vargas and Diego Luna. Jania is in Student Council, and she does well in Spanish III, art, and interior design. She likes to hang out with friends, draw, and listen to music. Her future plans are to work in law enforcement. One of Jania's teachers said that "Jania has a keen eye for art and design. She's very creative, detailed, and her work is always nice and neat. She participates well in discussion and has great input."
We are proud of these two students. Their hard work and dedication to excellence make them worthy of being called our Students of the Month!



Plains 5th and 6th graders will be participating in our first spelling bee on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the Plains ISD Cafeteria. Students participating should have received a letter this past Friday.
The winners of the Plains Spelling Bee will be participating in the final regional spelling bee in Lubbock, TX, on March 23, 2024, at 10 a.m.
