Plains ISD is excited to announce that the district will be an AVID district starting in 2016-2017. AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) operates under a mission: “To close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.” AVID was created in 1980 by a teacher who understood that students from all backgrounds can succeed with an opportunity and the right support. Today, AVID is implemented in over 4,900 schools in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and 16 countries/territories. AVID impacts over 700,000 students in grades K-12 and in 41 post-secondary institutions. AVID will now impact the students of Plains ISD.
