Plains ISD is happy to announce the newest member of its family: Cowboy Murphy. The name was voted upon by the high school student body and is honor of former Plains resident Murphy Luna. The Luna family settled here in 1905 and filed on four sections of land. In 1906, they established a post office and named it "Plains" because of the broad open plains of the landscape. The family also drilled a well and windmill on the now museum lawn, which furnished water for the citizens of Plains for many years. Plains ISD feels that this is a fitting tribute to a family that was integral in the history of Plains.
We have decided to move to the next phase of getting closer to normal. Starting off Tuesday, September 22, 2020, all students grades 7-12 who wish to receive face-to-face instruction will come four days a week. https://5il.co/l4nm

To help our front office monitor doors and take student's and visitor's temperatures, we are changing up our drop off and pick up. We are asking that all parents please use the elementary or high school drive through to drop off and pick up your student. High School and Middle School students that pick up younger siblings at the Elementary doors.
5th thru 12th grade students. The teachers' google classroom codes are located on this website and our Plains webpage. Please login tomorrow if you are online learning. You can login today to be ready for tomorrow. https://www.plainsisd.net/article/286516?org=plains-isd
Dear Elementary Parents/Guardians, Welcome Back! We are so excited to see your student whether it be face-to-face or virtual instruction! The teachers and staff have been working extremely hard to provide your student with a safe and engaging learning environment. While this year will look a little different, the expectations we have for ourselves and your student remain high. There are several changes to school procedures that I would like to explain. 1. All students need to self-monitor at home daily with the help of a parent. The questions will be provided at the end of this letter. 2. All staff, students, and visitors will have their temperature taken before walking in the door every day. 3. Masks are not required, but they are recommended. If you can send a mask with your student, they can be used in the classrooms for short periods of time, so students can participate in small groups and centers. 4. If you want your child to wear a mask all day, we will certainly allow that. Please communicate that with your child’s teacher. 5. Restaurants and parents may drop off lunch to their student. Please ring the bell and someone will come to the door to get it. 6. Visitors and parents will not be allowed in school without an appointment except in the case of an emergency. 7. If you need to pick up a student during the day, please call Christina at 806-456-7401 ext. 1293 and let her know what time you will be there, and she will escort them outside to your car. Please pull through the elementary drive-through and wait in your car. If you are not there at the designated time, your student will be sent back to class. 8. Arrival and Dismissal will look different this year. We are asking that all parents please use the elementary drive through to drop off and pick up your student. We ask that all parents remain in their vehicles at all times. We will have people to help your student in and out of the building. 9. Dismissal will take a few minutes longer, especially the first couple of weeks. Please be patient with us, we will make this work and will do it in a timely manner. 10. We have red bracelets available for staff and students to wear if they choose. This bracelet represents a visual reminder that the person wearing it does not want to be hugged or touched and wants to keep a 6 ft distance between them and others. If you would like your child to wear one during the school day, please contact your student’s teacher and they will give them one. We will keep student bracelets in the classroom. 11. The doors will open at 7:30 am every morning. Do not drop off your student before then. Students in elementary will go directly to their classroom and have breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 – 8:00 am every morning. Students are counted tardy at 8:05 am. 12. We will not be allowing visitors to eat in the cafeteria with their student. 13. We will not be having class parties in the classroom this year. If you want to send things with your student, they may bring them to class. 14. Please make sure you keep your phone number updated in the office. It will be very important this year that we have correct information at all times. 15. Pre K & Kindergarten parents: You may bring your child at 8:15 am on Wednesday (the 1st day of school) and walk them in. This is a special day for you and your student, and we want it to be memorable. We will only allow this to happen on the 1st day of school. Your student will not be counted tardy if they come in at 8:15 am on Wednesday. 16. The JH doors will remain locked and unused for drop off and pick up. All students in PreK – 6th grade should be dropped off or picked up at the elementary drive through. 7th -12th grade should be dropped off or picked up at the high school drive through. We will allow you to drop off all your students at either the elementary drive through or HS drive through. Self-Screening Questionaire 1. Have you, your student, or anyone in your household tested positive for COVID 19? 2. In the past 14 days, have you or anyone in the household been in close contact with someone with COVID 19? 3. Have you traveled outside the United States in the last 15 days? 4. Have you traveled outside of Texas in the last 15 days? 5. Is your student experiencing any of the following symptoms that are NOT normal to them? Persistent cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees, loss of taste or smell, headache, chills, sore throat, shaking or shivering, significant muscle ache, diarrhea, all of the above You should ask these questions about your student daily and do a daily temperature check before sending your student to school. If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you should either keep your student at home or call the school for any clarification needed. While we know this year will be different, we are working hard to ensure that your child’s education and safety are our #1 priority! We ask for patience and grace this year from everyone. Please talk to your child’s teacher or me if you have any questions or need any clarification. See you on Wednesday!! Mrs. Heflin Elementary Principal 806-456-7401

Plains Cowboy/Cowgirl Strength and Conditioning Guidelines Starting 7/13/20 Must wear a mask at all times that exercise is not taking place Must pass temp check upon arrival. Must have your own water bottle/jug. Must not have traveled to a hot spot, been in a large gathering, attended select, club, or travel sports games. These things increase the chances for exposure and possibility of bringing Covid- 19 into our workouts. Please understand that the only way for us to safely continue our workouts is to follow the guidelines that have been set forth by the UIL and Plains ISD.
The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) deadline was originally June 30th, but the State of Texas has extended that to July 31st for any still needing to apply.

Due to the recent spike of Corona Virus cases in our area and the State, we are implementing some new strategies to do what we can to keep our student-athletes safe. We are asking that if you are playing on a travel/select team, summer league team, go to any camps (sport or non-sport), or attend any mass gathering, do not come to summer strength and conditioning or sport-specific practice for 7 days after attending one of the above activities. We are not saying to not do these things. We as coaches appreciate our athletes doing extra things in the summer to make themselves better. This is a measure simply aimed at keeping our athletes safe and limiting their exposure to others who might come into contact with the Corona Virus. Missing strength and conditioning due to you participating in any of the above-mentioned activities will not be held against you. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Coach Welch Or any other Coach on staff.
