Romero's big day not enough,Plains falls 13-5 to Smyer
Despite a big day at the dish from Christian Romero, who finished 2-3, Plains lost 13-5 to Smyer at Plains on Monday.
Three of Plains' runs were scored thanks to timely hitting by Romero. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fourth inning.
Brennen Dominguez was a workhorse on the mound for Plains. Dominguez allowed four earned runs, nine hits and six walks while striking out five over seven innings of work.
A four-run third inning helped bring Plains within four. A two-run double by Romero, an RBI single by Nick Anna, and an RBI single by Cole Gatzki gave Plains life. The Plains threat came to an end when Deleon finally got Austin Taylor to strike out.
Plains scored one run in the bottom of the fourth to cut its deficit to five. An RBI single by Romero fueled Plains' comeback. Smyer stopped the rally after Deleon got Anna to strike out.
