Friday night, the Plains Cowgirls picked up a thrilling victory over the Sundown Roughettes 56-55 in double overtime. The victory brings the Cowgirls' record to 22-2 on the season and 3-0 in District 6A-DI play. The Cowgirls showed a lot of fight and resilience as they came back from a 5 point deficit in the first overtime to tie the score on a Haley Welch layup with 3 seconds left. Then in the second overtime, the Cowgirls lost their 1-point lead after giving Sundown an offensive rebound and putback with 22 seconds remaining in the ball game. Tori Reyes came through with an offensive rebound and basket of her own with 4 seconds left to give Plains a 1-point win.
There were so many great plays on both sides - what a great game! The Cowgirls will now face the #1 team in Class A - the Smyer Lady Cats. JV begins at 5, followed by the varsity at 6:30. Go Cowgirls!!
