"The difference between a jogger and a runner is an entry blank."
September 06, 2010
This quote from George Sheehan exemplified the Cowboys and Cowgirls Cross Country teams as they proved they were more than “joggers” on Saturday at Plainview Running Water Draw Park in a 1A-5A Cross Country event.
Twelve schools participated in the Varsity Girls’ division which consisted of eighty-six athletes. Varsity Girls’ Team places were as follows: 5A Clovis (55 pts), 4A Plainview (65 pts), 1A Wellington (74 pts), 2A Idalou (92 pts), 1A Crosbyton (141 pts), 1A Olton (185 pts), 2A Lubbock Roosevelt (202 pts), 2A Abernathy (206 pts), 1A Plains (219 pts), 1A Petersburg (231 pts), 1A Hale Center (258 pts), and 1A Lockney (277 pts). As individuals, the girls placed as follows: Stephanie Addison-33; Jasmine Rivera-35; Fabiola Ruvalcaba-42; Carolina Hernandez-64; and Samantha DeLaRosa-70.
The Varsity Cowboys competed in a field of six teams and placed 4th with 104 points behind 5A Clovis (22 pts); 4A Plainview (49 pts); and 1A Bovina (84 pts). Cowboys placed ahead of 1A Olton (124 pts) and 1A Lockney (136 pts). Individual places for the Cowboys were as follows: Jaxon Bean-5; Theo Cordova-15; Parker Baum-25; Griffin Young-34; Colby Bearden-36; and Jaston Brink-40.
Coach Henderson had the following to say about the meet: "I am very proud of our kids. Every one of our girls improved upon their times from the week before. The boys had a very busy weekend with a long out-of-town game Friday night plus leaving early for Plainview Saturday. That, coupled with a course that was about two tenths of a mile longer than Brownfield, led to slower times for them. But, the effort was still good. I expect a great day on September 18th at the Plains meet."
Complete times and results of the meet can be seen at Plainview Cross Country Results.
