Newcomers Join Cross Country
The Cowboy and Cowgirl Cross Country Teams kicked off their season at the Jamboree Run at Coleman Park in Brownfield on Saturday, August 28. The Cross Country program welcomes a new coach, Randy Henderson, and both the girls’ and boys’ teams welcome new members to their ranks with each team having only two Varsity athletes returning from last year. Returning for the Cowgirls are Stephanie Addison (Sr.) and Samantha DelaRosa (Sr.). New Varsity Cowgirls are Fabiola Ruvalcaba (Jr.), Carolina Hernandez (Jr.), and Jasmine Rivera (Fr.). Returning Varsity runners for the Cowboys are Jaxon Bean (Sr.) and Theo Cordova (Sr.). New Cowboy runners are Parker Baum (Sr.), Griffin Young (Soph.), Colby Bearden (Fr.), and Jaston Brink (Fr.). Isaias Jasso (Sr.) also returns to the Cowboy team but competed this week in the Junior Varsity division.
In the Varsity girls division, the Cowgirls placed 9th as a team with 228 points. The girls finished in the following order as individuals: Fabiola Ruvalcaba-28th; Jasmine Rivera-29th; Carolina Hernandez-54th; Stephanie Addison-59th; and Samantha DelaRosa-78th.
In the JV Division, Isaias Jasso placed 5th.
The Cowboys team scored 153 points to place 6th behind teams from
Forsan (62 pts), Plainview (69 pts), Levelland (84 pts), Sundown (124 pts), and Brownfield (137 pts). Individually, the Cowboys placed as follows: Jaxon Bean-1st; Theo Cordova-14th; Parker Baum-46th; Griffin Young-57th; Colby Bearden-60th; and Jaston Brink-75th.Coach Henderson had the following to say about the meet:
"I am very pleased with the kids' performance this weekend. Most of the runners improved on their best times of the year so far. We are looking forward to next week's meet in Plainview."
Cross Country will next travel to compete in the ATM2Go Meet at Running Water Draw Regional Park in Plainview on Saturday, September 4. Good luck Cowboys and Cowgirls.
