Plains Elementary Recognized by TEA and NCEA
Higher Performing, Distinguished School
Plains Elementary recently received two recognitions:
The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) recognized Plains Elementary as a Higher Performing School in the 2009 Just for the Kids Campaign. We were selected for having outstanding growth in Mathematics. This award is given to schools that show higher improvement in scores over schools that are similar in size, ethnicity, and socioeconomic factors. The NCEA measures the gaps normally found between these different groups and tracks the school’s progress toward addressing those areas of concern. This award shows that our school is working to make sure that all of our children are learning and that they are all equally important. Congratulations to the students and staff for this recognition!
Plains Elementary School has been recognized as a Title 1, Distinguished School by TEA. The Texas Education Agency's (TEA) Title I, Distinguished Schools prestigious designation recognizes schools that have consistently demonstrated strong academic performances over a three-year period. All of these Title I, Part A schools achieved the Academically Exemplary rating for the present school year and have a residing population of 40% or more low income students. These schools have also achieved a minimum of a Recognized status for the two previous years.
Plains Elementary has maintained a low income percentage of approximately 65% and has been either Recognized or Exemplary each year since 1995. This high achievement has only been possible through the dedicated, hard work of all of our students, faculty, staff, parents, administration, board members, and community people. I am proud of our school system and the people that make it excellent.
Congratulations to Plains Elementary for an outstanding year and for your deserved recognition!
Mr. Hise, Principal
