Cowboys Fall to Braves in Bi-District
Successful Season Comes to an End
The Plains Cowboys saw their most successful football season since 2001 end in the Bi-District round of the Class A state play-offs Friday night in Andrews, falling to the Iraan Braves 49-7. The Cowboys were undone by a very slow start in the first half, both offensively and defensively, that left them with a 28-0 deficit at halftime. The second half was much more even statistically, but the 28-point lead was just too much for the Cowboys to overcome.
The only Cowboy score of the game came with 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter as Cowboy quarterback Josh Brock scrambled for a 47-yard TD. Cruz Marquez added the PAT, finishing the scoring for the game. The Cowboys were led defensively by Jeffrey Barrientes, with 9 tackles, followed by Jacob Brink with 7. Offensively, Josh Brock had 56 yards rushing on 15 carries, Robert Reyna added 27 on 10 carries, and Brandon Craft had 23 on 4 carries. Seniors making their final appearance for the Cowboys were: Brandon Craft, Jose Gallegos, Ernesto Calderon, Cruz Marquez, and Jacob Brink. The Cowboys finish the season with a record of 8-3, their first winning record since 2001, and with 26 lettermen returning, expectations for next season will be high!! Go Cowboys!
