Texas Blue Bonnet Award

Plains third through sixth graders are currently participating in the Texas Bluebonnet Award Program. This is our fourth year to partner with Yoakum County Library to bring this unique opportunity to our students. Not only does this program offer a rich reading experience, it also allows our students to learn about civic responsibility and the voting process.

Each year the TBA selection committee chooses twenty books for consideration. In selecting titles, the committee considers student interests, relevant content, reputable reviews, and literary quality. Both fiction and nonfiction books are represented.  Third through sixth graders across the state vote for their favorite book to win the award.  Students must read or have read to them at least five books on the list in order to vote. We have chosen the following books from this year’s list:

Whoosh! by Chris Barton
Follow the Moon Home by Philippe Cousteau
Ada's Violin by Susan Hood
The Princess and the Warrior by Duncan Tonatiuh
Lola Levine Drama Queen by Monica Brown

The statewide winner is "The Last Kids on Earth".
Our school favorite is "Whoosh!".

Thanks to Yoakum County Library and all the students who voted for their favorite book!
