Superintendent

Cowboys & Cowgirls:

We have had a great start in Plains ISD!  Cowboy and Cowgirl spirit and pride are evident as you walk through the halls of Plains High School, Plains Middle School, and Plains Elementary.  As we enter our second year as an AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) District we are excited to continue exposing our students PreK-12 to a college-going culture and support system to promote high levels of achievement.  We hear comments that not all students will or should go to college, and that is exactly right; however, as educators, it is our job to prepare every student at the highest level, so whatever college or career path they choose when they graduate from Plains High School, they are well prepared and ready for success!  Plains High School is also expanding Advanced Placement coursework through College Board this year.  Students now have the opportunity to take AP English Language and AP English Literature at Plains High School.  Our AP English Language students did very well when they tested last spring with 71% of them scoring a three or higher.

We will continue working with our local pastors as part of Pastors for Texas Children where our local faith leaders and I will meet throughout the year to discuss ways our churches can be involved and volunteer on the campuses.  Our PTA enters the third year, officers have been elected, and events have been scheduled.  Our PTA began the year with a photo booth for students at Meet the Teacher and on the first day of school.  They also provided dinner to employees and their families after Meet the Teacher night.  Partnerships between the parents, community, and our schools greatly benefit our students.  Thank you to our parents and community for being involved and supporting the work of our students and employees.

I want to thank our faculty, staff, coaches, sponsors, and directors for their commitment and work to provide our students with opportunities to experience success at these levels.   I am honored to serve as the superintendent of schools for Plains ISD.  If I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

It’s a great time to be in Plains ISD!  Go Cowboys & Cowgirls!

Sincerely,

Dr. Stephanie Howard
